| Summary: |
In October 1934, the Chinese Communist Army found itself facing annihilation, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of Nationalist soldiers. Rather than surrender, 86,000 Red Army soldiers including future Chinese leaders Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and Zhou Enlai embarked on an epic journey to safety. Joining their ranks was a group of thirty remarkably determined women. For the next year, these soldiers of the Red Army would cover more than four thousand brutal miles on foot. Their strength, bravery, and loyalty to the party and to one another would be tested in every way imaginable. |
